The people of Mirik are all set to welcome GTA chief executive Bimal Gurung after news of his arrival to the Hill town on February 18 spread. The residents and officials of Tourism department expect the upcoming visit to be profitable for the town. People expect Gurung, who sanctioned 23 crores for development works after taking over the post of GTA chief executive, to take major steps for development in the tourism sector during the upcoming visit.

People are expecting the renovation of the lake which serves as the main centre of attraction to the tourists here. The people also expect construction of garden, aquarium and arboretum around the lake to attract tourists which in turn will generate several employment options for the youths in the area.
The people have anticipated a transformation of Mirik into a model for other tourism centres under the GTA. Meanwhile, Information and Cultural Department member and GTA sabhasad Binay Tamang who arrived in Mirik today said, “The GTA has also chalked out plans for the renovation and reformation of Mirik into a Tourism centre.”
