TMC to take over another panchayat in Darjeeling dist

Siliguri – The ruling Trinamool Congress is continuing with its spree of taking over Congress and CPM-led panchayat boards. The Congress and CPM camps of Darjeeling district today suffered heavy blows when TMC leader Madan Bhattacharya disclosed Hentmuri-Singhijhora panchayat area’s senior Congress leader Chanchal Kujur and Hatighisa CPM leader Satalal Mallick have joined the TMC.

The TMC leader also claimed Chanchal’s wife Kiran Kujur, the pradhan of the Hentmuri- Singhijhora panchayat, will soon join the Trinamool. He further said most of the board members of the panchayat will soon join the ruling party.

The panchayat has 20 seats in total and the Adhivasi Vikas Parishad holds seven of the seats, while the Congress and Left Front have five and four seats, respectively. According to political observers, the TMC may take over the panchayat board in the course of a few months in the same way it has occupied other panchayat boards in the district.
