Bimal Gurung – GTA would stay as long as Mamata Banerjee wants

“If she coolly runs the GTA, it will continue. I am not here just to run the set-up. If she does not want it, it will not continue,” Mr Gurung said on the sidelines of a meeting with party workers at Dagapur, near Siliguri. He added that his main objective is not the GTA.

“We have a different vision and we will stick to that. We also want to see that the BJP candidate (SS Ahluwalia) wins the Lok Sabha election from the Darjeeling constituency,” he said, adding that the chief minister hurt the Hill people whenever she visited Darjeeling.

According to him, Miss Banerjee visited the Hills 23 times, but all she did was cut ribbons, while development works remained in a limbo.

Mr Gurung further said that his party’s work will now be Delhi-centric. “We will work together with the government at the Centre. The BJP is likely to form the government there and we are hopeful that the government would address our issues,” he said.

He added that his party will henceforth not call strikes and shutdowns.

At Dagapr, Mr Gurung held a meeting with GJMM party leaders of the Terai.

“Discussions mainly centered on the Lok Sabha election and how the party base can be strengthened in the Terai,” a party leader, who attended the meeting, said.
