WB State BJP President Rahul Sinha has demanded the bifurcation of Siliguri subdivision from Darjeeling District following the creation of the new distrisct Alipurduar. Infact, the seeds of bifurcation of Siliguri from Darjeeling district was sown in 1988 following the formation of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council.

The formation of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad in 1988 was the begining of a well planned political strategy by the Bengal Govt. to prepare the infrastructure for a new Siliguri Dictrict. Consequently, the territories to be incorporated in the proposed State of Gorkhaland will gradually shrink from both ends beginning from Alipurduar and later on Siliguri, eventually leading to the decimation of the demand for Gorkhaland.
In such a predicament, will GJMM President Bimal Gurung wait for the outcome of 2017 Bengal assembly elections or immediately persuade the Central BJP leadership to initiate the process for the formation of the State of Gorkhaland.
