TMC releases Commitment paper, promising 16 development agenda for the hills
Bhaichung released a 16 point commitment paper, especially designed to reach the hill people.

The promises include:

1. Demanding Darjeeling Hills a ‘special package of facilities’ and
2. Declaring the area tax-free for the next 10 years,
3. Minimum wages and land pattas for tea workers,
4. Developing the Cinchona plantation
5. Inclusion of Darjeeling as Backward Region Grant Fund (BRGF) area
6. Reservation in the GTA for people belonging to the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste communities,
7. A central university in Darjeeling,
8. Developing adventure tourism
9. Establishing a world class tea museum in Darjeeling.
10. Special schemes for linguistic and cultural minorities
11. Establishment of medical college in Kurseong
12. Agricultural University in Kalimpong
13. Development of Information Technology in the hills
14. Betterment of Toy Train and NH – 55
15. Increasing Rural Electrification
16. Improvement in Drinking Water reach

TMC has also promised to demand Bharat Ratna status for Tenzing Sherpa. In addition, TMC has promised widespread development of various tourism sites across the hills.
